Walking in West Mayo

On a larger scale, West Mayo is a spectacular walking location that few places can compete with. The Erris Head Loop and Ceathru Thaidhg Loops in the North West of the county offer dramatic views of the Atlantic Ocean, breathtaking sea cliffs and lovely sandy beaches.

Just to the west of Mulranny, you will find Achill Island. There are no fewer than 13 self guided loop walks graded from suitable for all to those that are not for the faint hearted. For those looking for a mountain challenge choose from a number of stunning routes on Slievemore or Croaghan.

The Nephin beg Mountain range dominates the landscape in North West Mayo. This relatively undiscovered and undisturbed mountain range contains five iconic hikes for the experienced hillwalker. The mountain range also sees the Bangor Trail pass through its shadow. This challenging trail links Bangor Erris with the town of Newport.
