Newport is a village North of Westport in County Mayo along Clew Bay. The Black Oak River flows through the village and is a popular angling destination for both river and sea fishing. The paternal grandfather of Grace Kelly, American actress and wife of Prince Rainier, was born in Newport and in April 2011 Prince Albert along with his then fiancee visited Newport village, the cottage of his great great grandparent and enjoyed a trad seission in the Grainne Uaile pub.
